My attention has shifted from the people in the foreground to the background for a moment. Concentrating on being able to give the main characters a connection of whereabouts other than on a plain with a sky. At first I used some old paintings that I felt could use some more attention as far as background. Now I’m experimenting with some small portraits, keeping the portraits simple and adding different backdrops to see how the background interacts with the foreground. This as a study for larger paintings. Aside from this, the small portraits are the first in which I focus on faces, capturing their gaze. Inspired by a detailed photograph I took of a girl in Get in Line. While before I avoided faces, concentrating more on body language.
